Redrow Provides A Boost To ‘Give A Brick’s’ First Project
A South Wales charity has been given a helping hand on its very first project in Cross Hands, Carmarthenshire, by local housebuilder Redrow.
The charity ‘Give a Brick’ was set up to raise £100,000 for a new community facility at the Cross Hands Christian Centre. Redrow has donated bricks to help towards building the annex at the back of the church and its staff have also built a wall and laid the stones for the car park.
Site manager Barrie Jones said: “As we are in the business of bricks and mortar, we felt the charity was an extremely worthwhile cause that we could lend our support to.
“More than just a housebuilder, we strive to get involved in the communities in which we build, and, as this new project is opposite our new development of homes at Maes Rhedyn, it will be very much part of the new community, which we are helping to develop.
“We have donated some bricks, built a wall and laid stones for the car park and hope to continue to offer further support to the project as it moves forward.”
‘Give a Brick’ was the brainchild of church secretary Eleanor Edwards who thought fundraising would be more achievable if individuals were asked to donate just one brick each. Thanks to donations of cash and building materials from local people and companies such as Redrow, the organisation is going from strength to strength and is looking for new community projects to help.
Much of the forward-thinking charity’s popularity has spread through social media and many of the funds are raised via the internet.
Eleanor said: “We are very grateful to Redrow for their donations and hope to work with them further in the future. The annex at the Cross Hands Christian Centre is our very first project, and the reason the charity was set up.
“We’ve been overwhelmed by the kindness of local people and have so far raised £32,000 for the project. Redrow assistance will help that money stretch even further. The charity has really taken off and we’re hoping we can assist many more community projects in the future.”
Redrow is building 56 new homes in Cross Hands from its sought-after New Heritage Collection.. A fully furnished and professionally decorated ‘Warwick’ show home is now open.
